Camp 2022 was pivotal for Aletheia Christian College students and staff. Nathanael and Rachel Davis mentored leaders and staff members with the full intention of being at summer camp this year. Leonardo and Nancy Tacza became part of class sessions to prepare for being lead camp counselors. As the time approached, Nathanael and Rachel announced that they would not be able to attend camp this year. While this was surprising news, it was not a huge concern for the leaders or for Nathanael and Rachel, because God had been preparing the lead counselors to lead camp. Nancy and Leo prepared various lessons, art projects, and themes for this year’s camp. God also led Isaiah Ziersch to lead worship and perform his developing work on Romans chapters 1-8. As camp staff and leaders were adjusting to the news, Pastor Randy Davis, Pastor Brian Harrison, and Isaiah Ziersch decided to tag team teaching (and performing) on the first 8 chapters of Romans for the week!

When camp began, we all noticed that this year’s camp consisted of campers coming from pastor’s families and church backgrounds. We also had the Tamang family stay us for the week. It was beautiful to see God minister to these families throughout the week. Appreciation, joy, and the arts were used by God to soften hearts and bring down walls. The teachings and activities were perfect for our campers with church backgrounds that might have been challenging for others. It was all clearly set up by the Lord for a purpose He had in mind.

Nancy prepared an art session using a spiritual discipline called Visio Divina. It’s an intense practice that focuses on meditation and prayer using the eyes. She also had a shorter session later in the week on prayer doodling. Leo prepared a clay and art session using Genesis 1 and Jeremiah 18. The students made their own clay pots and decorated them with acrylic paint. They were given questions to journal about afterwards. Isaiah memorized Romans chapters 1-8 and performed them before Pastor Randy and Brian’s teachings. The campers, leaders, and staff said it helped them see and understand Romans in a different light. He shared songs for worship on Romans verses, Hebrew songs, and other songs that the campers now have memorized! Bipen Shah and Joshua Tamang also helped teach during Pastor Randy’s teaching sessions.

All in all, it was a time of great growth for the campers as well as the leaders. Towards the end, we were led into a Spirit-filled revival moment after our traditional Agape meal. Several visitors attended that final chapel session and the Spirit moved among everybody.

It was a privilege and honor to participate in the ministry for this year’s summer camp. We all grew in knowledge of God’s callings for us. We are continuing to minister to the kids we had during camp, and setting our eyes on Him and what He has purposed next. Praise the Lord!
